BCRMTA Piano Competition 2022 Selection Results

April 1, 2022 was the deadline to receive applications for the Vancouver/Burnaby Branch auditions to select our representative for the BC Piano Competition be held on September 16-17, 2022 at Tai Na Mara Resort on Vancouver Island. On Sunday, April 10, 2022, Dr. Jane Hayes heard seven students in-person at Showcase Pianos, 1128 West Broadway.

Congratulations to Rachel Wei, student of Wayne Weng, who will represent our branch at the BC Piano Competition in September 2022, and to Owen Yisu Wang, student of Ronald Morgan, who will be the alternate representative if for some reasons Rachel is unable to compete. Honourable mention to Nina Wang, student of David Vandereyk for her performance of Heather Schmidt's Solus.

2022 PIANO COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates must include at least two contrasting selections (ARCT level or higher) to be performed during the selection process. This must include one movement of a Classical sonata and one Canadian work
  • There is a strict time limit of 20 minutes. Please be accurate to avoid being cut off
  • Candidates must be studying with a Vancouver/Burnaby branch member at the time of entry. If chosen, student would also need to be with a branch member for the competition in September 2022.
  • Candidates must not have represented a BCRMTA branch in the BC Piano Competition in the past.
