There are THREE types of STA membership from the BCRMTA Vancouver/Burnaby Branch:

 

 

 

 

 

1. For those who wish to have FULL STA BENEFITS.

 

     STA Membership Requirements:

  • Age – 16 or older
  • Minimum requirement – to have completed Level/Grade 9 Certificate (both Practical and Theoretical) with a recognized conservatory (RCM,CC,VCM or similar)
  • Future goals – include achieving full membership in the BCRMTA
  • Currently studying with an RMT member - either a member of BCRMTA or another provincial RMT association in Canada - in the practical teaching subject or theoretical subjects required for membership in BCRMTA. May be studying privately or enrolled in a college or university program.
  • An STA member must upgrade with an exam every 3 years.
  • Complete a Performers Diploma from a Conservatory or a University Degree within 7 years OR complete a Pedagogy Diploma from a Conservatory within 10 years.
  • For STA members who have exceptional personal or medical reasons for not upgrading every 3 years, one must annually (by February 28th) complete an STA Certificate of Professional Development application form which can be found online.
  • The Registrar and the Provincial STA committee will be responsible for managing the STA Certificate of Professional Development
  • Effective March 1, 2018, after 5 years as a member of the STA, the STA provincial rate will be increased to the same rate as paid by RMT's with extensions possible on an individual basis.

    STA Member Full Benefits:

  • a Certificate confirming coverage under the $5 million Group Liability Insurance Policy (covering all teaching activities)
  • a Membership card (useful for teacher discounts)
  • a receipt for income tax purposes
  • a subscription (3 issues per year) to Progressions (BCRMTA provincial magazine). STA members can access the digital version of the CFMTA national magazine The Canadian Music Teacher through the app at no cost, or purchase a subscription for a paper copy at the cost of $35.00/year.     STA Policies: 

  • Website Listing – STA members are not listed on the BCRMTA Provincial Website but may be listed on their Branch website identified as Student Teacher Auxiliary member
  • STA cannot hold office at Branch or Provincial level
  • The sponsoring teacher shall ensure that all STA requirements are met
  • Fees paid annually, due by February 15th. Late renewals are subject to a $50.00 fee.

 

   FULL BENEFITS include:

  • access to the monthly workshops, student recitals and festivals hosted by the parent branch;
  • a Group Liability insurance policy
  • Discounted concert tickets to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Chopin Society, Muzewest Concerts, Vancouver Recital Society

 

2. For those who wish to have STA Membership but WITHOUT full STA benefits.

  • This level of membership only includes attending monthly STA workshops and events. 
  • Group liability insurance coverage, various discounts, Progressions magazine subscription and STA member listing on the STA page are not included.

 

3. For current members of the STA who wish to EXTEND their STA membership to the end of the school term (June-July) and who will not be able to continue their membership in September of the year that their annual fees expire.

  • A fee of $35.00 will cover the costs of attending all workshops and events until the end of June/July of the year the STA membership expires.
  • Please make a cheque payable to the Student Teachers' Auxiliary and mail it to the STA Treasurer:
