The following is a list of benefits offered to Vancouver Branch RMT members and their students.

  • Online Teachers’ Referral Service
    • Prospective students can use the “Find a Teacher” link to access the Branch directory and search for teachers. Members are listed alphabetically with their geographical area and their registered disciplines. A contact email and phone number is included but either can be removed by request. Information is secure from webcrawlers and cannot be downloaded.
  • Liability Insurance and Tenants’ Legal Liability Insurance
    • Membership in the BCRMTA includes $5,000,000 liability coverage (per occurrence) to protect you and your students wherever you teach.
    • There is also $500,000 Tenant’s Legal Liability coverage, as required by landlords in commercial venues.
  • Monthly Events
    • Monthly events are planned from September to June. These meetings generally come in the form of lectures and workshops but December and June Luncheons for net working are organized as well as occasional masterclasses. Check the Monthly Bulletin for upcoming events. Non-members may attend events for a fee paid at the door and retired Vancouver members are also welcome to attend for a nominal fee.
  • Scholarships and Bursaries
    • Bursaries from $500 to $1000 are offered to students experiencing financial challenges in their music studies. Click here for more information and to access the current application package.
    • Scholarships are also offered through the Student Performers’ Guild Festival.
  • Monthly Bulletins/Email Notices
    • The Vancouver Branch notifies members of events though the Monthly Bulletin on the website; email notices are also sent out. For those members who do not/can not access the internet, mailed notification is possible. Please contact the Newsletter editor for information.
    • Vancouver members receive the BC Provincial newsletter Progressions as well as the CFMTA Newsletter, Canadian Music Teacher, three times a year.
  • Student recitals
    • Student recitals are organized 2 to 3 times a year at a central location for a minimal fee. Information concerning the events is posted in the Monthly Bulletin and emailed to teachers in advance of all deadlines. Click here to contact the Student Recital Convenor.
  • Student Master Classes.
    • When opportunities arise, teachers are contacted to provide students for masterclasses. While these events are an opportunity for teachers to observe master clinicians at work, they are also invaluable for the participating students.
  • Student Performers' Guild Festival.
    • The Vancouver Branch Student Performers' Guild (SPG) Festival is currently on hiatus as it is being re-organized. The membership will be updated as soon as possible and it is hoped that the festival will resume in 2019.
  • Student Teacher Auxiliary

  • National and Provincial Conventions
    • RMT members receive a discounted rate at all Provincial and National conferences.
    • Discount on VRS and VSO Tickets. RMT members receive a 15 - 20% discount on Vancouver Recital Society ticket prices depending on the performance.
