“Eye of the Storm”

Please click here to RSVP.  This event is for Branch and STA members only.

Dr. Terence Dawson will be discussing topics such as - what we listen for in a performance, thoughts on listening and sight reading skills and other issues that may come out of dialogue with each other during the presentation.  During this past year, both students and teachers alike have experienced the challenges of learning in a very different environment.  How can we pass through this turbulent storm with some developed skill sets that will remain with us when we have returned to something that is more familiar and normal?

Pianist TERENCE DAWSON is one of Vancouver’s most respected musicians. Invitations to give both concerts and master classes across Canada, in the USA, England and Asia affirm his versatility as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral pianist, and a collaborator of choice for many artists and ensembles both in Vancouver and across the country. He has performed as concerto soloist with the Vancouver Symphony and National Arts Centre Orchestras, the CBC Curio Ensemble and recorded for CBC and on disc for EMI Virgin Classics, Bravura and Skylark. A dedicated teacher, he has served as jury member for many competitions including the Canadian Music Competition and The Federation of Canadian Music Festivals. Dr. Dawson has been a member of the School of Music faculty since 1991, and was the division coordinator for 19 years. He succeeded his principal teacher, Jane Coop, serving as the Chair of the Keyboard Division for 9 years. He currently teaches piano, chamber music and collaborative studies.
